Saturday and Grey’s

OK, I’m going insane. There is nothing (worth repeating) going on in the world of Grey’s lately. Even my news feed is sending me the same old stuff.

  • Grey’s did make the Emmy Top 10 list for Best Drama this week. I’m not surprised, and I hope they win. The Emmy Awards Air July 17, by the way, so you can see for yourself who the winners actually are.
  • I saw one of those “make fun of celebrity websites” the other day that basically calls Heigl’s husband Josh Kelley “whipped.” Being that Heigl is the strong woman she is, her hubby very well may be whipped. But who am I to judge? He did marry her after all, and there had to be some good reason why.
  • The premier of hospital reality drama Hopkins aired this week on ABC, to decent reviews. I haven’t watched it yet, but I plan to soon.

Needless to say, I’m anxious for the next season of Grey’s. It won’t arrive soon enough. HURRY!

Lights! Camera! Action!

In what should be its second day of filming, the cast of Grey’s Anatomy are likely to be hard at work on their fifth season of drama, romance and excitement today.

I have to wonder what the “atmosphere” is like on the set thus far; and if, with all the Heigl going’s on, if everyone is actually getting along.

Or, can they feel the tension in the air?

It is my sincere hope, that the cast (and writers) can maybe put aside the personal stuff and begin doing what they do best — acting (and writing). And I hope they do not forget who they are hard at work for — the fans, of course!

Go Greys!

Heigl makes ‘Desirable Woman’ list

Making news of late is that an AskMen.com poll has named Grey’s own Katherine Heigl its Most Desirable Woman.

picapp.com

The Grey’s Anatomy star beat out Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson, to name a few, to land the top spot in the site’s annual list of Top 99 Most Desirable Women.

Giving her an overall score of 89.3, the majority of men seem to agree she’s their No. 1 pick. Now, how desirable she is I cannot say, of course. That is something that only those who like women, that way, can judge.

I do agree that Heigl is a beautiful woman, but for me that beauty is only on the outside. Her attitude says it all to me.

What would you do with $4.4 million?

Grey’s co-star Katherine Heigl makes $200,000 per episode of Grey’s Anatomy — that’s $4.4 million per 22-episode season (and that doesn’t count all the millions she makes from movies). Why she complained about her salary last season, I wish I knew. I could be VERY happy on just $200,000 a YEAR!

Here’s what I would do if Heigl’s $4.4 million were mine (these are not in any order):

  • Pay off all my old debts — credit cards, student loans, car loans, etc.
  • Set up my parents, for life — pay off their debts, build them new cars and a house and set up a fund for them to live on in retirement. I’d also set up a fund to get my baby sister through college.
  • Build my own dream house in my dream spot here in East Texas — complete with a home theater, an indoor/outdoor cat room, indoor pool, a guesthouse in back and the greatest kitchen known to man!
  • Buy myself a Mustang convertible – for the weekends, of course.
  • Fund the completion of my local animal shelter and finance its spay/neuter clinic.
  • Go on a two-week (or longer) vacation every year, no matter what.
  • Quit my newspaper job and work at home as a writer — blogging about Grey’s and writing the ultimate novel.
  • Buy all my favorite television shows on DVD — Grey’s, Smallville, CSI: Miami, and ER, to name a few — and watch them in my home theater at my dream house.
  • Spend a day on the set of Grey’s, watch the filming and meet the cast.
  • Donate funds for my own “school of journalism” at the university of my choice.

As for the rest, I’d put it away for a rainy day and live out the remainder of my life comfortably.

You’re a fortunate lady, Katherine Heigl. I just wonder if you appreciate how much.

Oh, McBaby?!

They’re not even filming yet, and already a few rumors are leaking out about Grey’s Season 5.

According to TV Guide Columnist Michael Ausiello, “someone may be preggers — and THAT someone shared a red-hot smooch in the finale!”
picapp.com

The mind can only reel about that one – some say its Callie, others (as in me) thinks it could be Meredith. Either one would make sense to me, but it seems if Callie were expecting (probably with McSteamy’s baby) that would complicate things with the prospective Callie-Hahn relationship (and makes things a bit more exciting for the viewers to watch).

Meredith, though, did present her own family plans with McDreamy in the end of Season 4, so maybe it could be them. But, really, MerDer still have things to overcome in their relationship and a pregnancy might push Meredith over the edge.

That’s all just my opinion, of course. I realize I could be wrong completely (but it sure is fun guessing). I’d love to hear what you think!

P.S. Former Grey’s co-stars Isaiah Washington and Kate Walsh spoke about the Heigl controversy on Entertainment Tonight recently.

Washington said he spoke with Grey’s creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes to offer his help and support.

Walsh didn’t address the Heigl situation directly, but had praise for the writers on her Grey’s spinoff, Private Practice.

Grey’s Week in Review: News, Notes and Tidbits

The biggest Grey’s news of the past week was, of course, Katherine Heigl’s Emmy nomination revocation and badmouthing the show’s writers. I won’t beat this almost-dead horse too much, but it seems this all may be a ruse to get off the show. Heigl’s contract shows her last season to be 2009-10. I’m not thinking she’ll make it that long.

  • It seems writers are hard at work preparing for season five, which begins filming June 25. In particular, they are doing their homework on the proper way to present the lesbian storyline of characters Callie and Hahn.
  • Before heading to the set, Patrick Dempsey has remained busy on the racetrack. He was also recently named to the Forbes 100 Most Powerful Celebrities list – ranking somewhere in the 80’s.

  • Eric Dane and his spouse Rebecca Gayheart took a last minute vacay last week, enjoying the sun and surf during a getaway on St. Barts.

The Heigl Saga Continues

The latest chapter in the Heigl saga is now making headlines, with Grey’s writers now letting their feelings be heard about the actress’ writer-insulting comments and Emmy nomination revocation.

The key Grey’s insider contacted Entertainment Weekly about Heigl’s action:
“The show bent over backwards to accommodate her film schedule, and then she criticizes the show for lack of material?” the insider said. “It’s an ungrateful slap in the face to the very writers responsible for her Emmy win in the first place.”

We all knew it was going to happen. Heigl has ticked off at least one of the writers. If rumors are true that she wanted out of her contract, then there are other ways of doing so, although this way might be one of the fastest.

And not only that, fans continue to rant on both sides of the issue, with most of them being disappointed (to say the least) in Heigl’s attitude and actions. One fan even comment that they hoped the network would NOT release Heigl from her contract and have her resuscitating deer for another season. (That’s pretty funny, but the show as a whole would suffer, I think).

The best comment I have read so far is that a good actor/actress takes that writing - whether it is good or bad - and uses their talents to make it great. So true!

I remain true to my gut in assuming that, unless she changes her attitude, Heigl’s days on Grey’s may very well be numbered. This, sadly, seems to be exactly what she wants.

I truly hope that Heigl will not forget where she came from - particularly those whose proverbial pens helped her win Emmys and make movies.

The Fans Have Spoken

The entertainment world continues to reel over Katherine Heigl’s withdrawal from the Emmy nominations. It seems fans are in an uproar over her actions as well.

In response to the many Grey’s blogs out there, I see a lot of words like “big head”, “selfish” and that, in general, she should have just kept her mouth shut.

I also read that in past seasons of Grey’s, Izzie was given plenty of spotlight (Denny Duckett, for instance) and that the other characters needed some priority on the show.

I totally agree.

Heigl’s television and film successes seem to have made her head explode and I feel that she is walking a very fine line. (Would she have had all that film success without Grey’s?)

I don’t know much about the television industry, but I know that publicly insulting writers can’t be a good thing. If she continues on this path, she could turn into one of those “good actors that no one wants to work with.”

This whole seemingly babyish attitude seems to have opened my eyes to Katherine Heigl as an actress. I have to wonder how much longer she will last…

All about Heigl…or is it?

The biggest Grey’s news to hit the scene of late is Katherine Heigl’s rejection of an Emmy Award nomination, due to the fact that she felt she was not given a good enough “presence” in Season 4 of the series.

Well what I think can be said in two words — boo-hoo!

picapp.com

It’s not enough that’s she’s already won an Emmy for her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens, or that she’s making it big in the movie business — with 27 Dresses, the film she’s currently working on and the recent announcement that she will star in and produce another film — she has to gripe that she’s not getting enough play on Grey’s.

From what I could tell, that is true — she got downplayed a bit in Season 4. But seriously, the show is not all about her. Izzie had been through a lot in the past couple of seasons and maybe Shonda Rhimes thought Heigl might have needed to take a back seat this time around and will bring her more forward next time.

Maybe Heigl was just being honest about why she removed her nomination, but in this case she could have stepped up and said, “I just want to give someone else a shot” or she could have just said nothing. But I guess that’s just not her style.

It seems that maybe Heigl just needs to learn to take turns. After all, it’s not “Stevens’ Anatomy,” it is Grey’s Anatomy.

Grey’s Week in Review

Grey’s isn’t making many headlines since the conclusion of season four, but here’s a “week in review” of sorts about what you might have missed over the past week…

  • Katherine Heigel is in the midst of making her next romantic comedy, The Ugly Truth. It’s due out in 2009.
  • Patrick Dempsey, whose movie Made of Honor is still on the big screen, is spending his off-the-set time on the racetrack. Dempsey drove the Cask No. 16 car in the GT class at Saturday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race at Watkins Glen International in New York. He also made an appearance at a cancer fundraiser, donating a signed racing suit to the cause.
  • Chandra Wilson and Private Practice’s Tim Daly were named 2008 Lee National Denim Day Ambassadors. As part of the United States’ largest single-day fundraiser for breast cancer, Wilson and Daly have been named this year’s Lee National Denim Day (Oct. 3) Ambassadors. The two will be featured in a public service campaign encouraging viewers to put on a favorite pair of jeans and make a $5 donation to women’s cancer programs.
  • Private Practice’s Kate Walsh showed her support for a cause as well, calling Barak Obama’s Democratic nomination “a great movement in American history.”
  • T.R. Knight told media that he had no plans to marry his significant other, 19-year-old Mark Cornelson, and took the time to defend the age gap in the relationship. Knight is 35.
