Who is your “person”?

While watching the Grey’s rerun on Lifetime Sunday, “Drowning on Dry Land,” I was reminded of the importance of having a “person” – someone to share your deep, dark secrets with, to vent on when the boss is getting on your nerves or when you just can’t take life (in general) anymore.

In the episode, McDreamy pulls Meredith out of the water at the ferryboat crash; and prior to that Cristina and Burke get in a tiff because she wanted to tell Meredith first about the news of their engagement.

All because Meredith is her “person.”

A “person” is mentioned prior to that as well, when Cristina has to have a “person” to go with her when she wants to “take care of” her pregnancy.

I have a “person,” Cheril, who has over the last few months become my best friend, which are pretty hard to come by these days. She keeps all my secrets, listens to all my gripes and generally lets me be my sometimes annoying, sometimes crazy self.

And she, likewise, shares her secrets and craziness with me.

I am sooo glad I have a “person.” Do you?

Grey’s Profile: Ellen Pompeo

I loved Ellen Pompeo/Meredith Grey from the first episode, when she dismissed the future Dr. McDreamy from her home on the first day of her surgical internship.

Meredith Grey is one of those characters I can relate to — confident but not; unsure but sure; a reasonably good friend, but not a very good girlfriend.

Rumor has it that she and McDreamy will be very McSerious about their relationship next season. I kind of hope so, but it might not be any fun for viewers if their isn’t a little drama in the MerDer relationship…

Bio
According to her abc.com bio, Ellen Pompeo received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama at the 2007 Golden Globe Awards.

Along with her fellow “Grey’s Anatomy” cast members, she also received the 2007 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Television Drama.

A Boston native, Pompeo made her major studio film debut in Brad Silberling’s “Moonlight Mile,” alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Susan Sarandon. She went on to star opposite Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell in the wildly successful “Old School” and in Steven Spielberg’s “Catch Me If You Can,” opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

Prior to “Moonlight Mile,” Pompeo had starred in several independent features, including “In the Weeds” and “Coming Soon.”

She also appeared on an episode of “Friends,” as a college mate of Ross and Chandler.

Trivia

  • Had a scene in Daredevil (2003) as Matt Murdock’s (Ben Affleck) secretary Karen Page, but it was deleted from the theatrical version of the film.
  • Before “Grey’s Anatomy” (2005), she auditioned for a television pilot called “Secret Service.” That show was not picked up by any television network.
  • She is the youngest of 6 - she has 5 siblings who are all at least 8 years older than her.
  • Suffers from asthma.
  • Her mother died when she was only 4 years old. Her father is Joseph Pompeo, a salesman.
  • Had a part in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), which was deleted from the final cut.
  • Wed fiancé Christopher Ivery in a civil ceremony in New York City on November 9, 2007. The only people in attendance were Mayor Michael Bloomberg and First Deputy Mayor Patti Harris, who served as witnesses to the ceremony.

Quotable:
On her character Meredith Grey – “She’s smart enough to make her way through medical school but she can’t figure out that she can’t sleep with strangers all the time.”

Saturday and Grey’s

OK, I’m going insane. There is nothing (worth repeating) going on in the world of Grey’s lately. Even my news feed is sending me the same old stuff.

  • Grey’s did make the Emmy Top 10 list for Best Drama this week. I’m not surprised, and I hope they win. The Emmy Awards Air July 17, by the way, so you can see for yourself who the winners actually are.
  • I saw one of those “make fun of celebrity websites” the other day that basically calls Heigl’s husband Josh Kelley “whipped.” Being that Heigl is the strong woman she is, her hubby very well may be whipped. But who am I to judge? He did marry her after all, and there had to be some good reason why.
  • The premier of hospital reality drama Hopkins aired this week on ABC, to decent reviews. I haven’t watched it yet, but I plan to soon.

Needless to say, I’m anxious for the next season of Grey’s. It won’t arrive soon enough. HURRY!

Lights! Camera! Action!

In what should be its second day of filming, the cast of Grey’s Anatomy are likely to be hard at work on their fifth season of drama, romance and excitement today.

I have to wonder what the “atmosphere” is like on the set thus far; and if, with all the Heigl going’s on, if everyone is actually getting along.

Or, can they feel the tension in the air?

It is my sincere hope, that the cast (and writers) can maybe put aside the personal stuff and begin doing what they do best — acting (and writing). And I hope they do not forget who they are hard at work for — the fans, of course!

Go Greys!

Heigl makes ‘Desirable Woman’ list

Making news of late is that an AskMen.com poll has named Grey’s own Katherine Heigl its Most Desirable Woman.

picapp.com

The Grey’s Anatomy star beat out Jessica Alba and Scarlett Johansson, to name a few, to land the top spot in the site’s annual list of Top 99 Most Desirable Women.

Giving her an overall score of 89.3, the majority of men seem to agree she’s their No. 1 pick. Now, how desirable she is I cannot say, of course. That is something that only those who like women, that way, can judge.

I do agree that Heigl is a beautiful woman, but for me that beauty is only on the outside. Her attitude says it all to me.

Grey’s Profile: Justin Chambers

At first I hated him. Then I hated him a little less. And a little less. (You get the idea). But I realize he is one of those characters that everyone has in their life — that obnoxious type that just rubs us the wrong way. And as I have continued to watch Dr. Alex Karev, I realize there is more to him than meets the eye. A man that doesn’t give his heart away too easily, but when he does love its seems that it is with everything in him.

I can’t wait to see to see where Grey’s takes Dr. Karev in Season 5.

picapp.com

Bio (from www.imdb.com)

Justin Chambers was born on July 11, 1970, in Springfield, Ohio. He is one of five children of John Chambers and Pam Chambers, an Irish-German-American family. He has a twin brother named Jason, one older brother and two older sisters.

While on vacation in Paris he was spotted by an agent and soon went on modeling for Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, and others throughout Europe, Japan and United States.
In the 1990s he settled in New York, where he studied at H.B. Studios for 4 years. That schooling yielded him appearances in several off-Broadway stage productions and a few television roles.

Chambers’ first break came in 1995, a four-month gig on a long-running NBC’s daytime soap “Another World,” then he appeared opposite Lolita Davidovich in Harvest of Fire and in CBS’s Rose Hill opposite Jennifer Garner in 1997. After that he catapulted to the “IT” list of the late 1990s and was described as “part James Dean, part Marlon Brando” by Harper’s Bazaar in 1998.

He made his big screen debut in 1999 in the featured role of a rich WASP who befriended a Jewish kid in Liberty Heights, a Barry Levinson drama.

He then starred as D’Artagnan in The Musketeer (2001) alongside Catherine Deneuve and Mena Suvari, then co-starred with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner (2001).

In 2005 Chambers made a comeback starring as Dr. Alex Karev opposite Katherine Heigl on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy. He also starred as obsessed police detective, Sgt. Matt Parish, in the thriller The Zodiac (2005).

Justin Chambers has been enjoying a happy family life. He is a father of five children with his wife, Keisha Chambers, a model agency booker, whom he met while he was modeling with Calvin Klein. The two have been married since 1993.

A longtime New Yorker, he used to travel back and forth from New York to L.A. while his family was still in New York. His wife and children have recently moved to LA with Justin from their New York home.

If I were on Grey’s…

Ever wondered who you would be or what you would do as a character on Grey’s?

Well, we’d all like to play a leading role, but in reality we all know that not everyone gets to be a star.

Thank goodness television is not reality.

My dream role would be as one of the interns, of course, trying to make my way through the harsh realities of becoming a surgeon. I see myself as being the silent-but-deadly type — observing, listening and swooping in to take action when no one else expects.

And as far as relationships, I would want a serious one, or to already be married to someone outside the hospital. Someone with a humble-yet-noble profession, like a writer or teacher. But, I would love them with all my heart.

I would not be completely untouchable, though. Working 24-7 with the some group of people cannot be without its temptations. But would I falter? Who knows?

It’s fun to imagine getting to be someone else for an hour a week. What would you do if you could star on your favorite show? The possibilities are endless….

Grey’s Bits and Tidbits

Just a few news bytes picked up on the web today:

  • Game five of the NBA Finals had the best adult 18-49 rating of the summer, even topping the Grey’s Season 4 finale.
  • Private Practice star Kate Walsh stunned (in a good way) audiences on late night TV in America on Tuesday, when she chose to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, wearing nothing but a white bath towel and high heels. The actress told Kimmel she didn’t like the fit of her designer gown, and so chose to wear linen instead.
  • John Cusack is set to star opposite Chow Yun-Fat and Grey’s Anatomy actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Grey’s guest star Denny Duquette) in a 1940’s film “Shanghai.” Directed by Mikael Hafstrom, the film is set during the Japanese occupation of the city.
  • Grey’s star and Screen Actors Guild member Sandra Oh recorded a so-called “robo” message for the union this week urging dual SAG and AFTRA members to vote down the tentative AFTRA primetime TV contract. According to www.hollywoodreporter.com, the calls were placed to members throughout Wednesday afternoon, and similar messages are expected to be placed during the next week.

Thank goodness, KH did not run across my news feeds today.

What would you do with $4.4 million?

Grey’s co-star Katherine Heigl makes $200,000 per episode of Grey’s Anatomy — that’s $4.4 million per 22-episode season (and that doesn’t count all the millions she makes from movies). Why she complained about her salary last season, I wish I knew. I could be VERY happy on just $200,000 a YEAR!

Here’s what I would do if Heigl’s $4.4 million were mine (these are not in any order):

  • Pay off all my old debts — credit cards, student loans, car loans, etc.
  • Set up my parents, for life — pay off their debts, build them new cars and a house and set up a fund for them to live on in retirement. I’d also set up a fund to get my baby sister through college.
  • Build my own dream house in my dream spot here in East Texas — complete with a home theater, an indoor/outdoor cat room, indoor pool, a guesthouse in back and the greatest kitchen known to man!
  • Buy myself a Mustang convertible – for the weekends, of course.
  • Fund the completion of my local animal shelter and finance its spay/neuter clinic.
  • Go on a two-week (or longer) vacation every year, no matter what.
  • Quit my newspaper job and work at home as a writer — blogging about Grey’s and writing the ultimate novel.
  • Buy all my favorite television shows on DVD — Grey’s, Smallville, CSI: Miami, and ER, to name a few — and watch them in my home theater at my dream house.
  • Spend a day on the set of Grey’s, watch the filming and meet the cast.
  • Donate funds for my own “school of journalism” at the university of my choice.

As for the rest, I’d put it away for a rainy day and live out the remainder of my life comfortably.

You’re a fortunate lady, Katherine Heigl. I just wonder if you appreciate how much.

Oh, McBaby?!

They’re not even filming yet, and already a few rumors are leaking out about Grey’s Season 5.

According to TV Guide Columnist Michael Ausiello, “someone may be preggers — and THAT someone shared a red-hot smooch in the finale!”
picapp.com

The mind can only reel about that one – some say its Callie, others (as in me) thinks it could be Meredith. Either one would make sense to me, but it seems if Callie were expecting (probably with McSteamy’s baby) that would complicate things with the prospective Callie-Hahn relationship (and makes things a bit more exciting for the viewers to watch).

Meredith, though, did present her own family plans with McDreamy in the end of Season 4, so maybe it could be them. But, really, MerDer still have things to overcome in their relationship and a pregnancy might push Meredith over the edge.

That’s all just my opinion, of course. I realize I could be wrong completely (but it sure is fun guessing). I’d love to hear what you think!

P.S. Former Grey’s co-stars Isaiah Washington and Kate Walsh spoke about the Heigl controversy on Entertainment Tonight recently.

Washington said he spoke with Grey’s creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes to offer his help and support.

Walsh didn’t address the Heigl situation directly, but had praise for the writers on her Grey’s spinoff, Private Practice.
